I read the beep, Mr. Hammer’s reply about teachers’ pay raises and the rebuking tone that came along with it to teachers.  This pay raise is political baloney.  My wife had been in the system for 22 years with exemplary performance.  She is a school counselor.  Anybody over 20 years has had their longevity pay completely taken away.  She hasn’t had a raise in over seven years.  All they’ve done is to redistribute the money and call it pay raise.  So, before you go out and you start doing your tones and your aggressive manner, OK, and I’m a conservative, and I read your paper, and I’ve read it for a long time, you need to get your facts straight, OK?  Your summation is dead wrong.  And you’re going to lose teachers in this county like you read about.

• • •

Editor’s Note: I’m sorry your wife has not had a raise in seven years.  State employees received a 1.2 percent raise during the administration of Gov. Bev Perdue.  I don’t know why your wife didn’t receive this.  She should have.

• • •

Hi, this is High Point calling.  I was reading in the Rhino about the county may ban smoking on their properties.  I was also wondering, are they also – and that’s due to health reasons – were they also going to be banning soft drinks, candy, fast food, etc., etc., since over three-fourths of our entire population in the county are overweight or obese?  The majority of the health problems we have now come from people being overweight or obese, causing other problems.  Are they also going to ban drinking soft drinks on the county, and fast food and sugar, sugary things, ice cream?  I was just wondering, because the majority of the school children 10 to 15 years old are overweight.  All the handicapped parking permits, the majority of the people who receive those is due to weight problems causing other health problems.

• • •

To use your words, quote, it is incredible that, end quote, you would say slow drivers are more dangerous on the highway than drivers exceeding the speed limit.  You say slow drivers create hazards that are not safe on the roads, but you don’t say how they are a hazard.  We hear frequently that speed kills, but I’ve never heard anyone say slow driving kills.  I’d much rather take my chances against a slow driver than against one who is zooming down the highway exceeding the speed limit.

• • •

Editor’s Note: OK, but please stay out of the left lane.

If we had a president that had any common sense whatsoever, he would go to the UN and gather up all the countries he could and wipe out the ISIS bunch.  They’re not going to stop this cutting people’s heads off over there.  They want to do it all over the world.  And anybody that can’t see that, there’s something wrong with them.  I don’t understand.  Trying to rehabilitate them people, as Chub Sewell wrote one time in a book, is trying to love a rattlesnake till it’s nonpoisonous.  You cannot do it.  They need to wipe them out over there.

• • •

Hammer, you are just plumb full of it.  I’m an honorably discharged Vietnam veteran, and I served your time ever since I was in the Army.  And there is too darn many of them.  The only jobs there are, but there’s just too many of them.  I mean, we’re in places we don’t need to be.  Not at all.  Those people will never like us no matter what we do.  So, let’s just leave them alone.  Don’t give them any aid.  Don’t give them any soldiers.  Don’t give them nothing except maybe a few bombs.

• • •

Hi, I think the letter in the August 14 issue by Michael Warren about rebuffing evil with fluff was dead on.  The only problem with getting anything done is that by the time our golfer in chief gets reelected, I mean excuse me, gets replaced in office and we have a real president, ISIS will be too big, and World War III will have to be started to get rid of it.

• • •

Hey, John.  Long-time reader.  Just wanted to say in your recent article it looks like, and fortunately I know Roy Carroll bought the Rhino.  I read all of that.  I didn’t know that he had to buy you up as much into the thing as buying up the paper.  Seems like journalistic integrity has certainly been compromised and you’ve gone from rapier wit to shill man.  I hope you get it back some day.

• • •

Hey, Rhino.  Long-time Rhino fan here.  Just wondered if you were ever planning on bringing back the Schmoozefest.  A lot of us old guys, we really enjoyed that.  Like to see you bring it back.  Thanks.  Bye.

• • •

Editor’s Note: We plan to bring Schmoozefest back, perhaps as soon as this fall.

• • •

Mr. Hammer.  I read your analysis about the Ferguson situation and the police violating the rights of the press.  I had to take a business trip to St. Louis two weeks ago, and I was amazed at the number of people with very large suitcases going back and forth between the rental car places.  And it occurred to me that all of these people were press people with very large, enormous television cameras.  And it occurred to me that, yes, they didn’t cause the problem, but they certainly perpetuated the problem and made it much worse than what it had to be.  When you have 500 people out there with news cameras, it only encourages people to come out and make trouble and play the fool.  So, the press really made the problem a lot worse than it had to be.

• • •

When Eric Holder gets back from Ferguson, Missouri, he needs to go up to Chicago, Illinois.  They tell me that they kill them so fast up there they had to bring up three new backhoes.  They can’t dig the holes fast enough.  And nobody seems to care a thing in the world about that.  I guess it’s because blacks killing blacks.

There are 12 of us that would like to share our experience with the public which we feel like they have a right to know why the Greensboro Urban Ministry is putting out such pitiful stories of lack of food.  They’re going to be lacking even more.  And let me tell you the reason why.  We 12 people have applied, or tried to apply, and we were talked to less than you would talk to a dog, very disrespectful, very rude, very arrogant.  But, anyway, they put in the newspaper and everything else where they help with food or help with utilities.  Let me tell you what they do.  It don’t make any difference what your income is, or what your financial crisis is, or whatever.  They tell you have to go to the Department of Social Services first.

• • •

To continue.  There are multitudes of people that knows about this.  And they are just as irate as we are about it.  But neither did the North Carolina attorney general respond either, Roy Cooper.  No, he didn’t respond either.  Nothing.  No writing.  No contact or nothing.  And it was proved that he had to have major surgery and lose a body part because of what was done to him innocently.  And, yet, nobody, nobody.  No Obama.  No old Eric Holder, or Roy Cooper, or none of them.  None of them had the audacity to even do an investigation and make a phone call or make a written contact or even contact my son to find out exactly what took place.  So, the only difference is that the good Lord intervened and allowed our son to live.  That’s the only difference.

All true Americans, regardless of race, color, creed, national origin or whatever else.  This is for true Americans.  Two things I challenge you to do.  Number one, if you haven’t already, go see the movie documentary entitled America.  It tells of America from when it first became a nation on up to the present time as to what’s happening at the present time.  Challenge number two, buy and read the copy of the book America: Imagine a World Without Her.  And after you read it, pass it on to your children, or to a loved one in your family and continue to pray for America.  Because the way this administration is going, America will be gone in about two generations.  And after that, there will be nothing to replace it.  God bless America.  And remember, people, please vote.

• • •

Yes, people in Ferguson, Missouri, are so mad right now they’re breaking in stores and stealing cigarettes.  They’re so mad, they’re breaking in and stealing television sets.  It’s spreading to surrounding cities, other people are getting mad and breaking into stores and stealing all kinds of stuff.  I hope it doesn’t spread to Greensboro.  They get mad here and start breaking in and stealing everything from stores.  I hate when people get that mad.

I want to say something about they sure need the Marine that served in World War II.  He fought on Okinawa.  Setting out there in his car one night waiting on his friend to take him home.  Three kids comes up, drags him out and beats him to death.  Did Obama say anything about that?  Did they send Eric Holder down there to investigate that?  No.  This woman had her pocketbook taken out of her hand and beat to death.  Did they send anybody down there from the White House to investigate that?  No.  Are they sending anybody out there to investigate these kids running up to these people and hitting them upside the head and knocking them out, in some cases they killed some of them.  No.

I don’t think Mr. Bellamy has much to worry about on his drunk driving charge.  I doubt very seriously the arresting officer will show up at the court hearing.  So, thank you.

Editor’s Note: Former Greensboro Police Chief Tim Bellamy has already lost his job as police chief of North Carolina Central University.

I just want to say thank you to the Greensboro Coliseum staff and everybody that worked at the War Memorial.  It was a great theater.  I saw a lot of great shows there.  And thank you to all of the Greensboro taxpayers who helped put that building there and helped bring me and my friends from out of town to come visit.  Keep up the good work.

It’s Sunday morning, and the very idea that people refer to Rev. Al Sharpton is a disgrace to every preacher in this country.  If he’s a reverend, I’m an astronaut.  And I’ve never been up in an airplane.  I don’t know what the answer to that is, but every time there is any kind of trouble, he goes running out there.  And said the other day, he said, wait till they show that boy in the coffin.  That’s when things will get started.  He is an agitator, and he should be portrayed as an agitator, and he should be ordered by a judge to go back to New York, or Washington, or wherever he’s supposed to be and stay there.  And another thing, Obama should have never let them people take over that dam in Iraq.  You talking about leading from behind, he takes the cake.

Just finished reading an article in the News & Record online version about the Rev. Nelson Johnson and the rest of the beloved rabble-rousers about the police got to have citizen review.  I noticed that Deputy Chief Hinson was there at that meeting.  And he must have been misquoted by the paper, because he said something about integrity.  Well, first off, I know he doesn’t know how to use that word properly.  I’m sure he doesn’t know how to spell it, and he doesn’t know what it means.  So, obviously, he was misquoted.  Yeah, Hinson, integrity.  Come on.

Showing the man with the red outfit on, fixing to get his head cut off, is the worst part of journalism I have ever seen in my life.  And they just keep showing it over and over and over again.  I don’t know what this country is coming to.  Anybody that would like for us to view anything like that is sick.

• • •

Well, they don’t teach history anymore in America.  So how would these young college kids, and any kids, know that Japan bombed Pearl Harbor in 1941, Dec. 7, and I was 11 years old?  They killed 3,500 and some of our sailors and Army men.  They nearly destroyed the Seventh Fleet.  That’s the reason we’ve had a fight with them.  And to invade that little country of theirs would have cost us a million men or more.  So, to bring them down to the table to surrender, Truman bombed them twice with an atomic bomb, and I still say he done the right thing.  And we fought with Germany.  They sunk one of our ships, and we helped liberate the whole continent over there from Germany.

Hi, Beep.  You’ll love this.  I just went through three construction zones in Virginia and two more construction zones in North Carolina.  You know exactly how much work was being done?  Zero.  Total there was only one truck at all five construction zones.  Guess what he was doing?  Hauling orange barrels around.  What do you do when government is the problem, not the solution?

I understand King Obama’s coming to Charlotte on Tuesday.  And he needs to come down here, because today is Sunday.  The Greensboro News & Record is reporting in that one in five people in this state is living in poverty, less than $24,000.  He needs to be asked about that.  A good place for him to come would be in Greensboro and talk to the people there that’s suffering and not making the money.  And all these people drawing food stamps.  He needs to ask when does it start getting better?  He’s been in six years.  He went all over the world apologizing for us winning wars.  Now we got one at our doorstep and he don’t know what to do.  If we don’t find somebody somehow or another to help stop these people that’s cutting people’s heads off, our heads are going.

• • •

Hello, John.  It’s me again.  I’m calling about an August 21 beep about this girl or this man who it was talking about Eve Carson being shot and killed by black people.  He’s comparing it with this stuff out in Missouri.  There is no comparison.  She was not shot by a black policeman.  She was shot by two black men.  This guy in Missouri was shot by a white policeman.  That was what that was about.

• • •

Yes, I was calling concerning the riots they’re having out in Ferguson, Missouri, and Eric Holder is heading out there today, August 20, to try to figure out if there is racism involved.  Hopefully, he can come by Hickory, North Carolina, where the schoolteacher was murdered by the black man and see if there is any racism involved in that one where she was murdered and raped.  Maybe he can see if there is any racism.  That’s right.  It only works one way.  Never mind.

• • •

Hi.  I just think it’s amazing how these Islamic people, Islamic extremists rather, the ISIS people, are talking about if any more of their fighters get killed by American strikes they’re going to start targeting Americans.  They don’t care how many people they kill, but if anybody kills one of them, they get very upset, and same thing going on in Israel with Hamas.  They think just because they don’t get all of their demands met they can just try their hardest to eliminate Israel.  It’s just crazy.  These are hardline extremist.  I think they all need to be erased.

• • •

Hello, Beep.  I just have something to say about the Uncle Orson column in your August 14 issue.  And that would be that thank God that Uncle Orson is no uncle of mine.  His statement that 99 percent of the achievements of Western civilization spring from the writing and idea and accomplishment of dead white males a few years ago would have earned him the label of male chauvinist pig.  Perhaps that label would still apply in 2014 to Uncle Orson.  Thank you.

This is in regards to our state voting to ban gay marriage and people that keep saying that 61 percent of North Carolina voted to ban gay marriage.  He needs to study up – people need to study up on exactly how many registered voters voted in that election and voted for banning gay marriage.  If I’m not mistaken, I think it was around 14 percent, 14.7 percent of our state voted to ban gay marriage.  That’s nowhere near a majority.  So, let’s get the number straight before we start preaching about what’s right and wrong.

• • •

Editor’s Note: Are you suggesting that elections shouldn’t count where a candidate doesn’t receive votes from over 50 percent of the registered voters?  If so, we’d have to throw just about everybody out of office.

• • •

Well, I keep hearing on the news where Obama paid ransom to get that guy out from overseas.  Well, I’d like to ask him, had he never heard the old saying, you don’t make deals with the devil?  And when you go to paying to get one back here in the United States everybody in the United States there is is going to get kidnapped.  And there ain’t enough money in the United States to pay them off.  So, keep right on with your shenanigans.  They are playing right into his hands.  Maybe that’s the way he wants it.  Think about it.

• • •

Yes, I would like to know where our city taxes are.  You pay two city taxes, one county tax, and a special downtown district tax on my new tax bill when I bought an automobile.  I would like to know why.  Thank you.

• • •

I have just now received my tax payments.  It’s almost $1,000, and I’d like to know, will it make it over to Guilford County or to pothole city.  Because Greensboro is not using our money to fix the roads, and it’s tearing our cars all to pieces.  I hope you’ll print it.  Thank you.

Well, after all these many years, Sen. Kay Hagan – we all that voted for her and never intend to vote for her again.  We want to say that she’s finally got one thing right.  And that is the ad she has on television that she has been designated as the most moderate senator.  She doesn’t say who designated her.  But I guess she designated herself.  But let me tell you how it is with Sen. Hagan, and there’s a large number of us that had a very pertinent issue.  And we – different ones of us called and wanted to get a return call, or at least be followed up with a letter to get some kind of response.  And guess what happened?  We all got the same form letter.

• • •

Hey, I don’t understand how all those people coming across the border from South America and Mexico, how all those people coming over here is good for the economy.  There’s no jobs here for them.  They will never learn to speak English.  And little Nancy Pelosi standing up there – it will be great for the economy, said they’ll take little boy Jesus out and had to hide him from the bad people.  So, I need to take her down behind a barn with Harry Reid and work both of them over.  Good.  Good time.  With a stick.

• • •

You know, I think everyone in this country has turned out to be liars and deceits.  They said on TV that those two people over yonder working with that Ebola disease would be put in these plastic containers, and they wouldn’t be not exposed to nobody when they came back here to this country.  Well, what a lie that was.  You sat and watched TV.  The guy got out of a van, an ambulance, walking to wherever he was going.  How many people did he expose?  He’s not well of it yet.  So, I guess when that lady gets back here, they’ll hop her off of the plane and let her expose a bunch of people.

• • •

Well, I guess Obama just couldn’t destroy this fine country of ours financially.  So, I guess he’s now bringing over Ebola to try to wipe us out that way.  I thought the job of the president was to protect its people, or his people.  Don’t tell me this president isn’t trying to destroy the United States.  Everything he does proves that he is.  Thank you.

• • •

Yes, this situation going on in Russia.  I think Obama worked it out with Putin ahead of time.  He did say he would be more flexible in his second term.  The situation in Israel and Hamas is simple.  Disarm Hamas.  Run them out and you have peace.  That’s a no-brainer.   Our government giving money to Palestinians only ends up in the hands of Hamas.  Duh.  A fine example of our government shooting their self in the foot.  You cannot fight terrorism on one hand and support it on the other.  Duh.

• • •

Hey, Beep.  I’m just wondering how many Democrats realized just how many bills are setting on Harry Reid’s desk that he won’t even look at.  That’s what’s holding this whole country up is that one little old stooped-over silly-looking man with that stupid, old wig on his head.  And he acts like he’s the something that’s ruining the whole world.  What needs to happen to that little guy is somebody to take him down behind a barn and readjust his attitude with a stick.  And, then, bring him back and say, now, if you can’t do it, we’ll take you back down there again.  He’s messing up everything by not passing any bills, by not even taking them up.  He ain’t nothing but a numb-brain, little old codger that’s too old to even hardly put his own pants on.

• • •

Hey, Rhino Times, I just came back from my father’s funeral.  Found out at the church Greensboro no longer allows police escorts for funerals citing lack of money.  I’d like to thank the police officer who came up there to tell us that and said that they had volunteered their time so all the police in the city had to give us was a car and the fuel to run it, and they wouldn’t allow them to do it.  Very nice of those police officers to come up there personally in their personal car to tell us that.  Find out why we don’t have enough money to have police escorts for funerals.  Thank you.

• • •

Does anybody know if Susan Danielson, the alleged Greensboro Police Department’s spokesperson, really exists?  You only see her name in the print media but never on live media.  Is this a fake employee making $50,000 plus a year?

• • •

Editor’s Note: Susan Danielson is a real live human being.

• • •

I wish that everybody in this country would go to Barnes & Noble and buy the book The Late, Great Planet Earth and read it.  And have your Bible with you, because what it says in there is in the Bible, verse by verse.  Everything that’s happening right now is in there, and it’s supposed to be just like this.  The only thing is, this country will be destroyed, not by a foreign power but by God.  God will with fire and brimstone.  So, people need to start looking up.  It’s getting close.  And we got the right man in the White House to help it.  He’s a Muslim, and he didn’t want to bother them people, because they’re his brothers.

• • •

I was in law enforcement for 23 years.  If you’re where you’re supposed to be, and doing what you’re supposed to be doing, any transmitter on your car doesn’t mean anything.  It will help you if you need it.  Thank you.

• • •

I wondered just how long it would take to get a black man or a man of color to serve in the Marines like the Marine did down there in the jail at Mexico.  How long would it take to get a man of color out of there?  I don’t believe it would take long, because Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton would be all over Obama about it.  Obama goes in there and talked to the president and don’t even mention the man’s name.  Now that guy is going to stay down there for half of his life, all on account of Obama being afraid to confront him with it.  And they’re running across our borders, and we’re feeding them free.  Yeah, boy, we got a good president up there.  He’s made a firm believer out of me about what God said.  And I thank him for that.  Bye.

• • •

I just saw Kay Hagan’s little speech on her campaign on TV.  I find it really odd that the commercial she has out there says she’s the most moderate senator around.  I believe this is the same woman that got up and talked all about Obama’s Obamacare, saying, you’re going to keep your same doctor, costs will go down.  You’re going to do this, and you’re going to do that.  The same woman who has walked in step with everything Obama has put before her to sign.  I find that really amazing.  But one other thing that I find even more amazing is I called her staff a couple of weeks back to find out what’s going on with all these illegal aliens that’s been crossing the borders, which only 20 percent of them are really children.  The rest of them are in their teens and 20s.

August 21, 2014

Yes, in John Hammer’s column this week he stated that teachers got an average raise of 7 percent.  That is not true.  All of the experienced teachers are losing their longevity pay.  My daughter, a 20-year veteran teacher, is getting a 2 percent raise.  And that is the case with most experienced teachers.  I’m disappointed that John Hammer is very uninformed on this issue.  Thank you very much.

• • •

Editor’s Note: Some teachers received less than 2 percent, but some new teachers received 18 percent raises.  That’s why I referred to it as an average.

• • •

Yes, my family has been part of the food stamp – receiving food stamp benefits since November 2012.  The initial application went smoothly.  But the recertification in November 2013 was caught up in the well-publicized backlog.  And it took intervention by a representative of the state DSS to finally get the reapproval after over three months.  This time, however, we were only approved for a six-month term that ended in May 2014.  Once, again, it took a representative from the state to move the recertification through just this past week.  So, evidently, there are still some issues with the Guilford County office.  Thanks.

• • •

Hi.  I think it would be nice if callers to the Beep were allowed no more than two calls a month.  Calling every week and sometimes twice a week is a bit much.  Thanks.  Bye.

• • •

I see where everybody has gathered up to protest about the policeman shooting the young man out in Missouri.  But what people seem to forget, they got a real short memory.  The little Eve Carson down in Chapel Hill was taken out of her house, drove around all over town, and about daylight the next morning she was actually executed, shot in the head.  Shot two or three times by a black man.  Of course, he’s pulling life.  But the white people didn’t protest at all.  They keep talking about not being fair.  I believe the fairness is going the other way.

Tell Scott Yost that alligators and crocodiles are not the same thing.  And neither lives in the ocean.  Piranhas and electric eels don’t either.

• • •

Editor’s Note: Actually, there are saltwater crocodiles, some weighing over 4,000 pounds.  So I do think Scott has good reason to fear them.  Although none have swum over from Australia yet, it could happen any day.

• • •

Hi.  I know that you all are great historians.  So, I have a question.  Other than Ronald Reagan and F.D.R., how many other presidents had good or bad approval ratings at the end of their second term?  My other question, actually my question is a statement.  I’m beginning to think that the readership of your paper are all a bunch of haters.  It seems like they don’t like anyone.  They don’t like Obama, Hagan, and now a nice person like the police chief.  He seems to be a nice man.  He’s white, married with a family.  So, I don’t understand why people don’t like him.  And I also want to say that no matter who the new chief is, there is no way Hinson …

• • •

Editor’s Note: Uh oh, you must be a self-hating hater.

• • •

Well, my worst nightmare is coming true.  We’re at war, and we have no leader.  He will not listen.  He tells them what he’s going to do.  Can you imagine telling your enemy we’re not going to put any boots on the ground?  Then he told them in Afghanistan we’re going to leave in November.  He knows the least about running a country of any human that’s ever been on this planet.  I don’t know what they’re going to do.  And the next thing, about the kids coming across the border, Fox News is reporting it’s 20 million kids in this country right now that does not get enough food, and he’s bringing in 50,000 more.  I don’t know what we’re going to do except pray.

• • •

Yes, Steely Dan Fan Man.  This coal ash spill happened like six months ago.  And I realize that the short session of the legislature started maybe three months ago.  But, still, that’s more than enough time to have addressed the situation in an expedient manner.  And I know that there are complications and all that.  And I’m taking all that into account.  But Gov. McCrory should have told these people, you know, you’re not going home until you do something.  You know, you’re not going to sit on your hands and do nothing and, then, go take a month off and, then, come back and, then, probably do nothing again.

• • •

Editor’s Note: The legislature is still in session, and I’m sure Gov. McCrory wishes he had that kind of power.

• • •

Just want to say thank you for the staff of the Rhino Times for putting out and distributing this very informative newspaper every week.  And, also, a big thank you for printing the vital information we need to know of how our tax dollars are being spent.  Thank you.

What good are the police, really?  Come on, let’s be candid.  These are the guys who write down words on pieces of paper after you’ve been robbed, raped, burglarized or murdered.  Isn’t that about the top and bottom of it?  In Missouri, during the rioting right now, the business owners there, the law-abiding citizens, are aghast watching their stores being looted while the police do absolutely nothing.  Or as Missouri State Highway Patrol Capt. Ron Johnson put it, quote, we have to evaluate the security of the officers there, and also the rioters, unquote.  The rioters, excuse me?  God forbid they evaluated the security of the innocent law-abiding victims of these crimes.  That’s how good the police are.  No good at all.  They say they’re there to protect and serve.  Let’s tell the truth.  They only harass and rob.  If you’re doing 75 in a 65, they’re all over that, aren’t they?  Just sign me off as An Independent Thinker.

It’s time for the white citizens in Greensboro to go to the next City Council meeting to speak out about the discrimination being done against former Chief Wray and the other white police officers for legal fees.  As a citizen, it was an insult to offer a $25,000 settlement.  That is ridiculous when they settle for $500,000 for 40 black officers and $25,000 for Hinson.  The city will lose the lawsuit while spending over a million fighting it.  I am disgusted with our City Council and our city attorney over this matter.  Bye.

Oh, I keep reading these articles about everybody talking about immigration, and they don’t want to stop the illegal immigration in this country.  I would like to ask somebody to tell me just how many illegal aliens is enough?  How many do you think we should have in this country?  We keep seeing people telling us there’s 12 million.  There is well more than 12 million.  I’d say there would be close to double that.  How many are enough?  Our economy is shot.  We can’t even pay our bills.  We have unemployment, a record 20 million people unemployed, 48 million receiving welfare benefits.  Feeding school lunches to children in the summertime because their parents either don’t have a job or they can’t afford to feed them themselves.  And the whole sole purpose of this is the illegal aliens pouring into this country.

Rhino Times, I have been keeping up with past articles written of the amount of wasted money resources and grand salaries that continue to plague Greensboro and Guilford County.  If you, or someone, is tallying the cumulative amount, well, it makes my head spin, not to mention how much is done in clean view such that the citizens must bear the burden for years to come from shoddy management for backroom dealing.  We learned detail after detail after officials leave to take other positions or retire with benefits for life.  We should learn from Detroit and their problems.

Hey, I’m just calling.  I think it’s a good thing that Chief Miller is leaving the Greensboro Police Department.  With the decisions and examples that he’s made, as in promoting James Hinson, and with his – Chief Miller’s disbanding of the Greensboro gang squad.   Who’s keeping a lid on the gang activity?  As an example, putting the Latin Kings away.  Now we’ve got gangs shooting at each other outside of Four Seasons mall.  Way to go, Chief Miller.  There’s nobody watching after the gangs since you did away with the gang squad.  And promoting Hinson, what a joke.

NPR despises the charter school movement because the charter schools are not controlled by the government and by the education labor unions.  However, even I was surprised when I listened today to “All Things Considered” and they issued a perfunctory and gratuitous correction from a previous story in which they had said that New Orleans, the city that is on course to have more charter schools than any other city in the United States, did not in fact have 80 percent of their schools as charter schools being graded as a D or an F.  They corrected it today, August 13, by saying that the true figure was actually approximately 20 percent.  So, despite their best effort to smear the charter school movement, they had to ‘fess up and say that they had misrepresented the charter school movement for their own goals.  And they wonder why we call them national propaganda radio.  Just sign me off as An Independent Thinker.

John Hammer, you’ve got the article regarding the saloon, Cascade Saloon, all wrong.  How is it that a renovation or Preservation Greensboro can do for $175,000, namely stabilize and rehabilitate the building when your article says that the council thought that it would cost $800,000 to do that?  It seems to me this saloon is going to be a white elephant on the taxpayers’ back.  Are there any written assurances that Preservation Greensboro will not come back and ask for more money?

• • •

Editor’s Note: The article did not state that Preservation Greensboro could renovate the building for $175,000.  But in order to make the deal work, Preservation Greensboro asked for $175,000 in exchange for taking at least a $300,000 liability off the city’s hands.  It was a very good deal for the taxpayer.

August 14, 2014

I was coming out of Jaycee Park this morning.  A Greensboro police car was in front of me and was in the right turn lane turning right onto Pisgah Church Road.  I was going left.  It then turned left in front of me without signaling.  Police officers should set a good example with their driving.

You may have recently seen Kay Hagan’s new television ad.  And if you’re like me, you probably couldn’t help but laugh when Hagan called herself a moderate.  North Carolinians know that Kay Hagan is not the moderate she claims to be.  Just look at her record.  Hagan cast the deciding vote for Obamacare and repeatedly lied about being able to keep your health care.  Hagan has voted for hundreds of billions of dollars of tax increases on small businesses.  The national debt has skyrocketed by $7 trillion since Hagan arrived in Washington.  Hagan has an F rating from the NRA.  That’s not the record of a moderate.  That’s the record of a senator who has voted with Obama 95 percent of the time.  The next time you’re with friends and family and you see Hagan’s ad, remind them of her real record.  We can’t let Hagan deceive North Carolinians again.

Hey there, Keith here.  Just heard on News 2 that the police had a ride-along for the bicycles.  But they didn’t say – do you ride on the seat or do you ride on the handlebars?  Thanks.

No wonder stores and restaurants are closing in Greensboro.  The atmosphere in Greensboro has deteriorated in the past few years where the City Council pays off the undeserving while the deserving are denied.  We, in the outlying areas, are taking our shopping and dining out to other cities.

It is good the State Highway Patrol arrested former Chief Bellamy on the driving while drunk charge instead of the Greensboro Police Department.  If GPD had arrested him, James Hinson would have come out and carried this drunk man home as he did former Chief White’s son several years ago.  And if he had been arrested, or not arrested, by the Greensboro Police Department, there would have been a civil suit filed for X amount of dollars and our weak-kneed City Council would have paid them off after spending lots of money on attorneys for defense with no questions asked, and then paid him off …

Yeah, this is to John Hammer.  Great piece this week about 70 years of peace we’ve had here.  I’m a retired Vietnam veteran.  And I would also like to say it’s wonderful to turn on Fox News in the morning, like 7:30 in the morning, when Doushi and them are on, and I saw the CIA man dress down Bill Clinton for what he is – a big liar.  And, also, managed to call Geraldo Rivera a dummy.  Absolutely outstanding.  Somebody that finally tells the truth.  John, if you get a chance, take a look at that piece that Fox had when the CIA man come on and said how many times Bill Clinton had a chance to kill Bin Laden and did not do so, passed it on to Bush.  He said the only fool in the White House is the one that’s up there now.  But did have another fool, Bill Clinton.  A great piece.  Oorah.

• • •

The man that put this beep in here about – tell me why all these fools find something wrong with Obama.  Well, I can set down with you and tell you he’s done nothing for this country.  He’s a Muslim.  He’s a liar, hypocrite and also he hates white people.  The man has not done nothing right.  Now, he hates Christianity.  There’s no doubt about that.  And he wants to squash the Republican Party so it won’t be but one party.  Then he’ll make a comeback, and he’ll be King Obama.  Then the white people will disappear like the Revelation book says.  The book in the Bible.  You’re the fool, man.

Please, could your paper provide us with the information regarding the total costs per diem package included for every cost to have the legislature in North Carolina, that’s including the House and the Senate members to be in session this summer?  How much is that actually costing us, complete package total as taxpayers?  This session was not to even be held as they pass a two-year budget, which was done last year.  I’d like to know how much money they’re wasting this summer getting paid to goof around in Raleigh.  This kind of information is very important to us taxpayers.  The total disregard of those members who are dragging this out because they have no other job and are seeking a paycheck and a hotel package and food payments, and car entitlements, and gas, and so forth.  This is ridiculous.  Thank you.

• • •

Editor’s Note: The legislature meets every year.  In odd numbered years they have a long session and in even numbered years a short session.  Historically, this was not a particularly long short session.

• • •

Well, a vote for Kay Hagan is a vote for Obama.  She is going to follow the Democratic leader who is absolutely ruining this country.  He knew that these people were coming in from South America.  He knew it a year ago.  But what the people don’t understand, they’re watching basketball, football, baseball, your taxpayers have got to keep these people up.  He don’t care.  By the time the country is completely flat broke, he’ll be out vacationing somewhere, drawing a great big check for him and his family for the rest of their lives.  Kay Hagan is as sad as Obama.  She said Obamacare was good, you could keep your doctor.  We know now all that was a lie.  If you want to see it get worse, vote her in.

Is there some reader at the Rhino who can tell me whether the Hobby Lobby insurance for its employees covers such things as vasectomies, Viagra and perhaps even condoms?  I’d sure love to know.  Thank you.

• • •

That’s pretty good.  The pro-abortion Democrats want to kill the unwanted babies in the womb of their mother.  What they’re saying is, we don’t want you.  You’re not welcome here.  We don’t want you in our country.  So, they slice them and dice them in the womb of the mother and then flush them down the toilet like a piece of garbage.  That’s what the Democrats think of human life.  But, yet, they treat the legal American citizens like that in the womb, but, yet, they open the borders and let the illegals come right across and say, you’re welcome.  But the babies in the womb are not welcome, but these illegals coming across the border, they’re welcome.  Maybe it’s because the babies in the womb can’t vote.  Wake up, America.  Thank you.

And continuing my call.  Once these people are sent all around the country and into each and every one of these communities, and the place in California that put a road block up and stopped them from coming into their communities, had the right idea.  They knew they could not fund the cost involved in putting these people in their communities and paying for their schooling, and their education, and paying for them to live in their communities while they go out and undermine the values of another person’s job.  We have 20 million people out of work in this country right now.  Forty-eight million receiving some kind of government assistance, and this is due to an influx of illegal aliens.  And these people in the unions, these peoples at the chamber of commerce, these people are the ones pushing for more and more illegal aliens to be brought into this country.

Good morning.  I’m just calling to thank you for your refreshing honesty and openness in your “Rhino Returning to Old Stomping Grounds.”  I enjoyed that article, and I do wish y’all the very best.  It’s going to be fun to see where you go from here.  I do have one question I haven’t seen addressed on the TV.  If it has, maybe y’all can answer it in an article.  I don’t understand, with the Israeli intelligence, how they didn’t know about all these tunnels as they were being built and take care of them before it came to this point.  Anyway, take care.  Bye.

• • •

Editor’s Note: That’s a great question.  I’ll see what I can find out.

Yes, calling about the Heritage House.  That place over there was full of Section 8 renters.  The City of Greensboro is supposed to keep up with that and make sure that they meet the minimum housing standards and they are in good shape before they the monthly rent to those slumlords over there.  They said the building has been in disrepair for years and the city is aware of that.  They said this year they had over 2,800 calls from the police and other services, and they know they have a problem going on over there, but they continue to pay the Section 8 money every month to these slumlords.  Why did the city allow that to happen?  I don’t understand that.  For years they’ve done that.

• • •

Chief Miller is leaving.  Good riddance to him.  Unfortunately, he’s leaving the fox in charge of the henhouse, though.

• • •

Yes, I’m calling about the Monday paper, the City Council talking about orphan streets and an engineering company said our streets are in excellent condition.  Evidently, the engineer observed all the streets from his desk or his computer, because up here on Kingston Road we have some holes in the street that can swallow a whole tire.  And on another road the surface is already breaking up.  So he needs to be looking around other places.  Thank you.

• • •

Editor’s Note: You should call your councilmember and get those pot holes fixed.

• • •

Well, they’re many of us that’s had the same experience that want – we have something to say.  And here it is.  In addition to the Department of Social Services and the HHS in Raleigh, one of the most prevailing agencies, departments, whatever you want to call it, is the State Bar.  Let me tell you.  You’re just wasting your time, energy, expense by writing the North Carolina State Bar about anything.  Here’s how that works.  You state – you make a legitimate complaint.  You state the facts and the truths.  Now, here’s what’s happened.  You name the attorney and/or attorneys involved and here’s the way it works down there.  It’s like the wolf guarding the henhouse.  They contact the attorneys.  The attorneys, of course, are going to cover their tracks even if it takes a lie to do it, and most of time that’s what it boils down to.  And, then, the ones that they’re supposed to be investigating …

• • •

Yes, ma’am.  This is Rodney.  I put an application in at one of your BP stations here in Wilmington, and I was trying to find out if you had received the application.  And you thought you may have on the resume that I turned in with it.  Thank you, ma’am.  Goodbye.

• • •

This is a continuation of my first call made about the North Carolina State Bar.  There’s a group of us that have shared the same letters.  And they got the same wording.  And let me tell you what they say.  They say the records speak so and so.  They won’t tell you what record.  They just say the record.  Well, that could be the News & Record paper.  But, anyway, that’s how they respond to you.  And, then, when you try to follow up with the one that has signed the letter, they’re never available, or they will not return your call in order to counter.  This is the truth.  We’ve got the truth.  We’ve got the proof that lawyers have come in there, and they have lied about – to the North Carolina State Bar – about a grievance that was filed.

• • •

Yes, Steely Dan Fan, again, Man.  Like I said, these people that are supposedly going to be picking up, or these children that are supposed to be going up here to wait on their parents to come claim them, those people should be arrested and deported immediately.  I don’t care if they are legal.  Once they are complicit in trying to get illegals across, then they are illegal.  And they should be deported immediately, as well as the rest of them.  And as far as them having all these young children when they knew they shouldn’t have, if we can afford to send millions and millions of weapons across the borders so that they can fight and kill each other down there, wouldn’t it be a lot cheaper to drop condoms?  Just airlift a bunch of condoms and drop them over everywhere down there?  Wouldn’t it make better sense?  All right.  I’m done, Bud.

Verified by the post office, according to postal regulations, when a person moves out of an apartment and a new resident is moving in an apartment, the apartment complex is supposed to have new mailbox keys done for the new residents.  Wonder how many apartment complexes or apartment communities are doing this, question mark, question mark?  This needs to be checked into.  I know of a residence where this probably did not happen, because I’m sure it costs money to do so.

Even when young black men were specifically seeking out white people to assault in a vicious and unprovoked violent way, something which they called polar bear hunting, or knock-out games, even during such instances, which were obviously racially charged, the mass media could never bring themselves to describe those violent incidences as being racially charged.  Why do you think it was called polar bear hunting and not brown bear hunting, or black bear hunting?  That exposes the hypocrisy of the mass media, doesn’t it?  Once again, just sign me off as An Independent Thinker.

• • •

Yes, since Chief Miller is gone, if they give Hinson the chief of police position, look out Greensboro.  We’ll be another Chicago.  Also, it is really anyone that has any morals after what all Hinson’s done, and several other officers, should pray about this really hard.  And not let this happen, or else Greensboro is corrupt as it is.  Do not add more corruption to it.  Thank you.

Hey, I’m out here at Country Park walking around.  Hadn’t been here since, like I was 8 years old.  And, you know, it hasn’t changed much.  It’s still just a bunch of red clay, and erosion, and sediment washing into the lake.  It’s really dumpy, man.  I mean you’d think about 30 years they could figure out the erosion problem out here.

• • •

Yes, talking about the Heritage House.  They keep saying like over half the people there don’t have jobs, don’t have any money to pay to go anywhere else.  Which means they’ve got to be on Section 8.  And if that’s the case, the city is supposed to oversee all the Section 8 and make sure it’s livable housing.  Why haven’t they been doing that over the years?  Secondly, if this property is in such bad shape, they’re all individually owned by landlords, why isn’t the city taking the landlords to task?  Those are the questions people need to be asking.

• • •

All Democrats are not this way, but some of them are absolutely ridiculous.  Burlington and Greensboro are showing how the food pantries are running out of food.  People coming in from South America, and some of the Democrats like Nancy Pelosi and Jermoon Green think that’s the very thing to do, said that’s what God would want.  They forget about the abortion thing that they went along on.  They don’t want to talk about that.  Just anything for the Democratic Party.  He absolutely wants this country, Obama does, to be a one-party system that is Democratic.  There used to be a Democratic Party, it was called communist.  There was another one called the Nazi.  A one-party system is not going to work in this country, and people need to wake up.  If your granddaddy has been a Democrat ever since he was on this earth, you need to wake up and see which way to vote when it comes November.

I just saw on the front page, Michelle Kennedy says the evacuation of the Heritage House is a humanitarian crisis.  And, then, at today’s paper it shows up one of the residents at this humanitarian crisis throwing out a perfectly – what appears to be a perfectly good bicycle.  Thanks.

Like your situation, John, birds are eating me out of house and home as well.  If you get some good explanations of what’s going on, I’d like to know, too.  Please share your information in your newspaper.  Thanks.  You’re doing a great job.

• • •

Editor’s Note: We had a good explanation from Barbara Haralson of Wild Birds Unlimited in the Letters to the Editor section last week.  By the way, if you really want to be eaten out of house and home, try feeding flying squirrels.  I think they eat their weight in seeds every night.

Hey, Steely Dan Fan Man.  I was a little disappointed that my call about the illegal aliens was not published in this week’s Beep.  And I understand you don’t have room all the time for every Beep.  But I did notice that there were some people in there that totally just almost word-for-word said what I said.  But on another note, on these UNC-CH people that are graduating that are reading on middle-school levels, and I’m reading it right now in the newspaper, when I was in the eighth grade I was tested.  And I was reading on a first year of college level.  And it bewilders me how these people can get through and pass and graduate college and not even be able to spell their name basically.  I mean it’s just absolutely ridiculous.  All right.  Bye.

• • •

Yeah, I see on the news here this morning that they are questioning Sgt. Bergdahl, a one-star general, I believe, is questioning him.  And I called in last year and said that they should take him out and tie him to a pole and shoot him.  This, of course, coming from a retired Marine.  But times have changed.  I’d love to go ahead and give him 40 virgins and a free home in Hawaii.

• • •

We’ll be lucky to win any more wars with the government like we’ve got going on now.  When Obama takes a deserter and starts hugging on his daddy and mama and making a big speech about it in the Rose Garden, and they say now they’re going to interview Sgt. Bergdahl.  They promoted him to sergeant while he was a deserter.  I tell you right now, that don’t make any sense at all to me.  When I was in there, you were absent without leave for 30 days.  After 30 days you was declared a deserter.  This man was gone five years.  He needs to be in Leavenworth and forfeit all pay and allowances and busted to the rank of private.  Now what they are going to do with him, I don’t know.  But somebody like Obama running this country, they’ll promote him to lieutenant or something and put him back in charge of a brigade.
