When it’s spring, a young man’s fancy may turn to love; however, the fancy of Greensboro Downtown Parks Inc. turns to putting on fun events at Center City Park and LeBauer Park. This spring, Downtown Parks is certainly keeping the two parks lively with a host of programs and special events.

On Friday evening, April 5, for instance, LeBauer Park will be the site of the 2019 Spring Blooming Event that will include a lot of games, crafts and music – and, of course, plenty of food.  The party will run from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. There will be – not a tree-lighting as people are used to – but a sculpture-lighting.  Janet Echelman’s sculpture “Where We Met” will be illuminated for the first time this year.  The evening will finish up with some music from Marcus B. Smooth from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

For those who like their fun in the middle of the day, starting on Wednesday, April 3, “Tunes @ Noon” will be presented by the Brooks Group for its third year in Downtown Greensboro Square.  Tunes @ Noon will offer lunchtime music every Wednesday, from noon to 1:30 p.m., to help people get rid of the midday workday blues.

On Sunday, April 7, Berkshire Hathaway Home Services will present Sunday Jazz Picnics downtown.  And the City Sunsets Concert Series, sponsored by True Value Rentals, will pick back up on Saturday, April 27.

There will also be a slew of fitness courses in Greensboro’s downtown this spring – starting on Tuesday, April 2, with Zumba in the Park.  Fans of fitness can also look for Alloy Afterburn, and Yoga and Pilates in the Park, which organizers say will provide wellness options for all skill levels and abilities. All of the wellness courses can be found by visiting greensborodowntownparks.org.

For youngsters, Kids Klub is also returning (funky spelling and all) – along with another full season of programming for kids including Crafts & Conversation, Zumba Kids, and Art in the Park.  Those are just a few of the coming events geared toward youngsters; the parks will continue to host weekly children’s programming through the end of summer.

On Friday afternoons, there will be a lot of fun – and, again, food – for everyone in Center City Park with Food Truck Fridays, put on in partnership with SynerG, every Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. – featuring games on the lawn and different food trucks each week.

Those who want to keep up with all the activities can follow everything on Facebook or register for Downtown Parks’ online newsletter at greensborodowntownparks.org.
