Costly Resource

Dear Editor,

I recently read a copy of the Rhino Times, and specifically your article on the 2017 Guilford County salary list. I always enjoy looking at this list of salaries as well as the one for city employees. I was wondering if you noted the following for the human resources area?

John Dean, HR Director     $135,189

June Harley, HR Manager   $92,832

Carol Campbell, HR Manager  $91,025

Kenneth Gibson, HR Mgr     $90,569

Ernest Willis, HR Mgr            $72,074

  1. Taylor, HR Div Specialist $65,000 (what is this position?)
  2. Abernathy, HR Sr Analyst $62,696 (What is this position?)

That is a total of $609,385 in salaries for seven people. Wow.

As you mention in your article, there are only 2,303 county employees, and for this number, why do we need a total of seven employees in the Human Resources Department, of whom there are four titled Human Resources Managers, and who knows what the last two people do. Somebody needs to look into this further.

Thanks for your listing. I look forward to the one on city employees.

Supporting All Rights

Dear Editor,

A letter in an April issue of the Rhino Times deserves applause. A. Wayne Hinson recalls his long-ago geometry teacher, “Old Burnsides,” a no-nonsense woman who taught at Greensboro High (now Grimsley).  I remember such teachers.  They were there to teach, and teach they did.  And their students learned.  Or else.

As one who believes that education is the way forward, I am discouraged at the lack of discipline in many classrooms.  I support civil rights and individual rights and all kinds of other rights, but I abhor disrespect and bad manners.  We simply must have classrooms in which learning takes place without disruption. When a class is in chaos, every single student loses.

Go, Burnsides.

Desperate Measures

Dear Editor,

I’ve heard in the news lately that some Democrats want to impeach President Donald Trump. My question is, why?

He hasn’t been caught having oral sex with an intern in the White House or creditably accused of rape by Juanita Broaddrick. He hasn’t gone on national television and lied about the deaths of four Americans, one an ambassador, in Benghazi, then told you that you could keep your doctor and health plan, if you want. And wasn’t it Hillary, as secretary of state, that assigned 20 percent of our uranium production to the Russians?

The reason that they want to impeach Trump is nothing but pure, unadulterated hatred – a hatred that they also feel for the American people. They hate anyone that won’t bow down to them. They’re thinking, how could these yahoos, these hillbillies, these hicks from the sticks, elect a president that doesn’t believe that all Americans should be slaves of the government? Hell, every liberal progressive knows that, right?

Since Trump’s election, the Democrats have gone ballistic. They can’t believe that their utopian fantasy isn’t working. In the process, they’ve told so many lies that I don’t think even they can keep up.

And, in their desperation, they’ve fallen back on an old technique developed during the Clinton years – having all their complaints and lies issued by either minorities or women. This is intended to neutralize criticism. Who will have the courage to tell a black person that what they’re saying is stupid? Why not? When did skin color eliminate ignorance? So call me a racist. I don’t care.

One of the most ignorant excuses for anyone who’s ever been in public office is Maxine Waters, congresswoman from California. Catch her sometime on television, screeching her racist slurs against whites. This woman belongs in a straight jacket, not Congress. And she has the added advantage of being female, in which case she can also accuse me of being a sexist too. Does she have any Mexican heritage? She can throw in a little xenophobia. Anything for a giggle.

The Democratic Party has lost its mind, if it ever had one. Since the ’50s, and I’m old enough to remember them, they’ve had no interest in governing; they want to rule. They see themselves as America’s royalty and the rest of us as “flyover” peasantry. Our only function being to keep the cotton picked and the taxes paid.

America, don’t let it happen. Fight back. Pick a side.

Lean on Him

Dear Editor,

Verses that deal with the importance of our dependence upon Christ as we cooperate with his revealed word in scripture are:

Zechariah 4:6: “Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.”

John 15:5, “I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: For without me ye can do nothing.”

Galatians 2:20,21: “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless, I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life I now live in the flesh I lived by the faith of the son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me and gave himself for me. I do not frustrate the grace of God: for it righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.”

Romans 1:17: “For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, the just shall live by faith.”

That’s the Way It Is

Dear Editor,

Walter Cronkite must be spinning in his grave right now.

Instead of going out and pursuing a story and verifying sources, the mainstream media are simply publishing anything anyone will tell them (at least if it’s anti-Trump).

And then there is their selective memory. If dear leader said or did it, it was as if it came from the Oracle of Delphi. They have given up even the vague attempt of trying to appear impartial, or honest.   Joseph Goebbels would be so proud.

What I can’t understand is why the administration is allowing these leaks to continue without taking action. It would not be that hard to trace the source. And as for how to handle it, well they did use to hang the bodies of executed pirates at the entrance of the bay for a reason.

Then you have both Houses of Congress doing kabuki theater – I’m sorry, I mean holding hearings that don’t go anywhere because nobody will talk to them. So then they threaten to subpoena and get ignored further. Is this a ruling body of educated adults or kindergartners at play?

I have a news flash for both sides of the aisle: The vast majority of the American people have no respect for you whatsoever. The people are demanding action on tax reform, the repeal of Obamacare, protection of the borders, immigration control and other things that will seriously affect their lives and you’re carrying on like a bad sitcom and the subject of impeachment has taken on the appearance of a running joke in that bad sitcom.

They have even seriously broached the subject of invoking the 25th Amendment to the Constitution. Imagine what could get done if they put as much effort into doing the people’s business as they do in being self-centered spoiled brats.

The American people need to take off their party colored glasses and start looking at what the individual stands for, not what letter is behind their name, before it’s too late, and that time seems to be coming quick. On a national level it has gotten to the point you can’t tell them apart. Actually you can if you look close. One is run by wackos and the other has no spine. And these are the people deciding on things that affect you and your family.

Go Galt and save the republic.

Trial by Media

Dear Editor,

Another white police officer has been acquitted of killing an unarmed black man. This time the police officer is a woman. A video shows Oklahoma Police Officer Betty Shelby shooting an unarmed black man while he had his hands in the air. I think that it should be illegal for a police officer to shoot an unarmed person while they have their hands in the air, but what do I know?

Officer Shelby should have been fired but was suspended without pay. Now she will get back pay of $35,000. Also the Tulsa police chief, Chuck Jordan, has said that she can have her job back.

No police officer should have a “license to kill.”

Oh, by the way, have you seen the video of the Texas police officer hitting a 14-year-old girl in the face? Maybe he will get a promotion.

Spiteful Agenda

Dear Editor,

Americans are not only living longer they are working longer too. Gone are those days when folks could retire at 60 or 65. People are now having to work well into their 70s in order to have a rich quality of life. Some Republicans seem to be more concerned about overturning Obamacare and replacing it with Trumpcare rather than thinking about the quality of life for most Americans.

There seems to be a big mystery of what is really in the Trumpcare bill. What are pre-existing conditions going to look like in this bill. Donald Trump has said many times over that he wants to make America great again. Then he should give Americans good affordable health care without penalizing Americans’ health issues.

Americans most certainly will have pre-existing health issues once they have reached their 60s or 70s. They might be cancer survivors, have high blood pressure, high cholesterol and a host of other possibilities. They will still be in the workforce and will need to remain in the best health possible. Those who have already retired and living on a fixed income will not be able to afford high premiums and the high costs for their medications.

The president and Congress seem bent on overturning Obamacare just for spite and not thinking about the health and wellness of Americans. I really hope that the powers-that-be really look at what is in this health bill before they sentence most of us to a living hell when it comes to being able to afford health care for ourselves and our families

The whole healthcare bill seems to be filled with hidden agendas for other special interest instead of just being about health care for the American people.
