TO THE EDITOR
Nothing new old buddy. Par for the course for the City of Greensboro.
Did you see where the Police Chief Ken Miller promoted James Hinson to assistant chief? He’s the officer that got into all the trouble with the Police Chief David Wray fiasco. Wray should’ve fired him for all the different things they caught him doing, and Wray shouldn’t have resigned either. It doesn’t make sense.
The federal court threw out Hinson’s suit, and what does the city do? Miller promotes him to assistant chief. That really sends a super message to the citizens of Greensboro, and to the officers that still work for the department that once had a reputation for being the best department in the state, and possibly in the entire southeastern US.
The officers’ morale and self-esteem has to be hitting rock bottom. It tells me that no matter how hard you work, if you’re a minority or female, it doesn’t matter how badly you mess up, all you have to do is sue, or threaten to sue, and you get a huge monetary settlement or a promotion that you don’t deserve and/or are incapable of handling.
A few months ago, a white female settled a discrimination suit with the city for over $100,000 and got an unearned (and undeserved) promotion to captain.
These people get promotions, then assigned to cushy jobs so they can serve out their time and retire with great retirement packages. It’s no wonder the government, at all levels, is going broke, and why the people no longer place any trust in our system or the people who act like they are running it.
DEATH PANEL BY ANY OTHER NAME
It appears that Ed Henderson fails to understand that rationing of care is the basic premise of Obamacare, as well as all national healthcare programs around the world. Less care and delayed care equals money saved – the desired end result.
We are now hearing of people who have lost access to the hospital and the physicians who have been treating their major health problems. Even Sen. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma, who is a physician, has lost the services of his oncologist who had been treating his recurrence of prostate cancer because of Obamacare.
Major health centers, with the best results for the treatment of cancer and heart disease, are not included in most healthcare insurance because it is more expensive to produce these results.
A recent Wall Street Journal editorial told of health insurance companies facing pressure from regulators and lawmakers concerning the plans limiting of doctors and hospitals. The insurers say with Obamacare this is a vital necessity to keep down prices.
Certain cancer treatments and heart procedures, such as stents and coronary bypasses, will have to be approved by others, physicians or not, especially for Medicare patients, before you will receive treatment. This same process is in place today. Physicians must call the insurance provider to receive permission and payment for treatment.
Under Obamacare, as stated previously, the rationing of care and the disapproval of treatments previously approved will be the order of the day when fully implemented. One of the major reasons for disapproval will be age, but any other arbitrary reason will serve. There is no recourse from this decision.
The Independent Advisory Board will not have to come to North Carolina to pull the plug on Ed, his insurer will do it for them with their denial of care due to the board’s previously decided upon approval/disapproval criteria.
Since Mr. Henderson so dislikes “death panels,” let’s call it decision making and denial of care by bureaucracy, who will now be required to be more concerned with the bottom line than the patient. The result will be the same.
