RHINO SHORTS

This week the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Women’s Basketball Tournament is at the Greensboro Coliseum, and next week the ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament has its first game on Tuesday.  This is the last year the men’s tournament will be played in Greensboro until 2020.  The schedule is all new this year with the first games on Tuesday and the finals on Saturday.  In the ACC, more teams just means more excitement.

How soon we forget.  A few years ago Democratic Sen. Bill Martin from Guilford County expanded the county commissioners by several people.  He did not have any dialogue with the county commissioners or the citizens of Guilford County.  I didn’t hear the liberals screaming and hollering about their rights when that happened.  Go Trudy Wade.  You’re doing the right thing.  Greensboro is a mismanaged city.  It’s giving away monies that it doesn’t have.  It’s taxing senior citizens and other businesses.  And it is not spending this money wisely.

DEAR EDITOR,

First, I would like to thank Roy Carroll for bringing the Rhino Times back to life.  We really need this paper because many times it’s the main or only way to find out what’s going on in our government in both the City of Greensboro and Guilford County.  So thank you very much, Mr. Carroll.

Second, Roy’s offer to purchase the Greensboro News & Record is a very good idea.  We sure could use a good balanced paper that’s in touch with the needs of the city and doesn’t try to hide part of the news.  And if it says it’s unbiased it should be unbiased.

I almost never buy the News & Record.  Occasionally I find a copy in the break room at work and read it and I see the covers in stores.  What I very often see reflected on the N&R’s covers is that they seem to publish this paper for only a part of the Greensboro population, as if that part is their main customer base.

So, Roy, I wish you good success and I hope something really good comes out of this offer to purchase.

Mike Small
